Dear GHS Families,
Last night several students from Gresham High School contacted administration about a planned walk-out to take place today at 1:40 p.m. Today, administrators, campus security, and our school resource officer met with some of those students to discuss their plans, and ensure that they would be safe, while also sharing their message in a responsible manner.
Gresham High School and the Gresham-Barlow School District did not condone, nor sponsor this event. We worked with the Gresham Police Department, and school officials monitored the students when they walked out of class at approximately 1:40 p.m. The students walked over to Gresham city hall, and after a brief rally, returned to school.
Gresham High School continues to emphasize that the rights, opinions, and viewpoints of all students and staff are valued, and we are committed to those core beliefs.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call us on Monday. We can be reached at 503-674-5500.

2011-12 Calendar Changes
Five non-school days added to the calendar
Dear Gresham-Barlow School District Families:
Last spring, the school district was forced to cut its 2011-12 budget by 6% due to the state of Oregon’s funding crisis. The budget was reduced through a combination of staff reductions, school budget reductions, and a reduction of five days from the school year.
Last night, the Gresham-Barlow School Board voted to modify the 2011-12 school year calendar so that families and staff members have time to plan for these non-school days. The days schools and all district facilities will be closed are listed below.
2011-12 Calendar Changes
January 3 No School-District Closed
January 4 Staff and Students Return from Winter Break
January 17 No School-District Closed
March 23 No School-District Closed
April 2 No School-District Closed
April 3 Staff and Students Return from Spring Break
May 25* No School-District Closed
*Middle School Assessment/Conference Prep Day moved to May 29
No School for Middle Schools on May 29
How days were selected
To ease the burden on staff and families, the days selected for the school closure were added on to existing holidays/winter and spring break. To reduce the educational impact to students at the high school level, the days are divided between first and second semester. The district will also achieve energy savings during the closure.
If you have questions about the calendar changes, please contact your school principal for more information.
