Safety Tips
Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is all about creating safe, convenient, and fun opportunities for kids to walk and roll(bike, wheelchair, scooter, etc.) to and from school. It’s important for the health and safety of our kids! We all need to work together to create livable, vibrant
communities with safe conditions on routes to and from school and throughout the neighborhood.
Safety Tips For Kids
Be visible:
Wear reflective or bright-colored clothing
and walk with one or more walking buddies.
Look before you cross:
Look left, right, and left again before crossing a
street. Make eye contact with drivers and make
sure the vehicle is stopped before stepping off
the sidewalk.
Use a crosswalk:
Always cross at corners or at a marked
crosswalk where drivers expect to see you. Cross with the crossing guard if your school has one.
Walk and ride with care:
Keep your eyes and ears open at all times! If
there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic. On your
bike, ride on the right in the direction of traffic.
Safety Tips For Parents and Guardians
Help your kids plan a safe route:
Use these maps to help plan a safe way to get to school from your house.
Be aware and alert while driving:
Set aside distractions and keep an eye out for
unexpected movements by children. Stop for
pedestrians in crosswalks and at unmarked
intersections. Look for kids who may be crossing mid-block, too.
Respect the school zone and crossing guards:
If driving, slow down in school zones. The safe
speed is under 20 miles per hour.
Respect the neighborhood:
Park in legal spaces and avoid double parking
or blocking neighbors’ driveways. Consider
carpooling or walking/rolling to school.
There are plenty of great routes around the school with several designated street crossings. There are plenty of bike racks on campus to help make keeping your bike safe while you’re at school convenient. With the new high school building, the only entrance to the school will be located on the east side of the building.

- Head east on NW 4th St toward NW Florence Ct
- Turn left to stay on NW 4th St
- Turn right to stay on NW 4th St
- Turn left onto NW Norman Ave
- Turn right to stay on NW Norman Ave
- Turn right onto NW Division St
- Slight left to stay on NW Division St
- Turn left and you have arrived at your destination
NE 3rd St to Gresham High School
- Head west on NE 3rd St toward NE Juniper Ave
- Turn right onto N Main Ave
- Turn right onto NE Division St
- Turn left and you have arrived at your destination
NE Kelly Ave & NE 3rd St to Gresham High School
- Head north on NE Kelly Ave toward NE 4th St
- Turn left onto NE Division St
- Turn right
- Slight left destination will be on the left
SE 224th Ave to Gresham High School
- Head south on SE 224th Ave toward SE Morrison Ct
- Turn right onto SE 225th Ave/SE Salmon Ct
- Turn left onto NW Salmon Dr
- Continue straight onto NW 22nd St
- Turn right onto N Main Ave
- Turn left onto NE 18th St
- Continue onto NE Kelly Ave
- Turn right onto NE Division St
- Turn right and you have arrived at your destination
