Gresham HS Athletics Hall of Fame

ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME
Gresham High School Athletic Hall of Fame - By-Laws
PREAMBLE
Gresham High School Hall of Fame is a memorial to outstanding individuals who, through their exceptional achievements, have brought honor to themselves, their school and to the Gresham High School Community.
PURPOSE
The purpose of the Gresham High School Hall of Fame is to formally recognize outstanding contributions to the heritage and tradition of the school program. It is the intent of this Hall of Fame to preserve the memory of former staff, alumni, boosters and others whose achievements have brought recognition and honor to Gresham High School.
- Once an individual, team, coach or administrator is nominated for consideration for election to the GHS Athletic Hall of Fame (hereafter Hall of Fame), that person shall always be a viable candidate. No time limit shall be set for eligibility once nominated.
- A person elected to the Hall of Fame shall be elected one time only, either as an athlete, coach or administrator. No further nomination shall be allowed. However, if the person has been elected as a member of a team, that person is still eligible on an individual basis and the team election shall in no way prejudice consideration of a person as an individual.
- No set time of competition, coaching, or administration shall be established.
- Election for each of the members of the Hall of Fame shall not be concentrated on one sport or era.
- To be eligible, a player must be five years removed from the completion of their competitive career at Gresham High School. A coach or administrator need be only one year away from his/her position.
- Election to the Hall of Fame shall be by a vote of two-thirds of the selection committee present. All those who vote must take part in the discussions that lead to selection. A minimum of nine committee members must be present at the selection meeting.
- If a team is elected to the Hall of Fame, that team shall count as one player/person in the admission for a given year. Only one team per year is to be voted into the Hall of Fame.
- For the first three years, the Hall of Fame shall elect ten players/teams/coaches/administrators. In all subsequent elections, the selection committee will determine the number of elects after review of the candidate pool.
- Consideration will be given to the personal conduct in sports, and personal contribution to the ideal of sport.
- In the fall of each year, the Selection Committee shall, through the Gresham High School Athletic Director, arrange for a notice to be placed in the media that nomination forms are available by writing the GHS Athletic Department.
- The Hall of Fame Induction Banquet shall be held annually under the leadership of the GHS Athletic Director. Each inductee will receive a plaque. A plaque with all of the Hall of Fame members' names will also be on display at Gresham High School.
- The Selection Committee shall work in confidence. No outside pressure on the Selection Committee will be allowed, as they will work independently and under rules of these by-laws.
- Veteran's Clause: A minimum of one election in each Hall of Fame Class must be a "Veteran." A Veteran is described as a candidate that completed their participation at least thirty years prior to the year of the vote.
- The Hall of Fame Selection Committee may award a special induction to be given to an individual, company, or entity in commemoration of their contribution to the Gresham High School Athletic Department.
- The by-laws can be amended by a vote of two-thirds of the members of the Selection committee present or taking part through teleconferencing. No proxy votes or absentee ballots shall be allowed.
How the Other Programs Help
These sources are useful because they show how established Hall of Fame programs handle details around the governing rules. They do not replace Gresham's approved by-laws.
Closest structural model: continuing eligibility after nomination, waiting periods, two-thirds selection, one-team limit, startup classes, veteran clause, confidentiality, and amendment process. PSU's nomination form is also a strong public-facing model.
Useful for nomination support: candidate background, achievements, awards, testimonials, public nominations plus committee research, and a recurring annual timeline.
Useful for operations: application screening, annual nomination window, committee voting, ceremony-size considerations, finances, and an annual work calendar.
Use the outside models only where GHS needs procedure: nomination form design, evidence collection, research workflow, timeline, event planning, and recordkeeping.

What the team list suggests
The early team pool is dominated by state championships, undefeated championship seasons, and state runner-up finishes. That provides a practical benchmark for team nominations while leaving room for exceptional teams from other eras whose impact may not be captured by a title alone.
