Public Service

Public Safety is a dynamic Career and Technical Education (CTE) course designed to introduce and deepen students’ understanding of careers in emergency medical services, fire safety, public safety, and investigation. This pathway begins with an introductory-level course that outlines career opportunities, explores the roles and responsibilities of professionals, and covers the basics of the 911 communication system. Students will gain foundational skills in first aid, career preparation, problem-solving, and professional communication.

As students progress into intermediate-level coursework, they will focus on advanced public safety operations, including emergency response, incident management, legal and ethical considerations, and teamwork. Through hands-on drills, realistic simulations, and collaborative projects, students will analyze complex scenarios, develop critical thinking skills, and apply emergency procedures. Key topics include the Incident Command System (ICS), ethical decision-making, and effective communication strategies for high-pressure situations.

Instruction is delivered through a variety of engaging methods, including lectures, multimedia presentations, group and individual activities, guest speakers, and field trips. Upon completing the introductory course, students can advance to specialized training in areas such as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Training, Criminology, and Mental Health & Crisis Management Support, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed for future careers in public safety.
